A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
