In excess of 36,000 individuals have escaped Sudan's Kordofan territory east of Darfur beginning Saturday, according to the UN's migration agency.
The important central zone separating the country's Darfur regions and the capital region has in recent weeks become the newest conflict zone in the 24-month civil conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary forces.
Significant Exodus Statistics
An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five districts in North Kordofan state between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.
The individuals, primarily walking, moved toward Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently accommodating over 652,000 refugees.
Escalated Forces Deployment
Residents of North Kordofan on Monday described a heavy surge in both RSF and army deployment across communities throughout the state.
Both military groups are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a critical supply and command center that connects Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently shared video message.
Area Inhabitants Detail Security Concerns
A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the amount of RSF vehicles had increased considerably since the group's seizure of El Fasher.
"We ceased visiting our farms, afraid of fighting," the individual stated.
Another civilian, who asked to remain unnamed for safety concerns, also reported that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.
Global Warnings and Calls
A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "large-scale atrocities" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.
The official alerted to patterns comparable to patterns in Darfur, where RSF militants have been alleged to commit mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.
The spiritual head on Sunday called for an immediate ceasefire and the creation of aid passageways in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's diplomatic representative to Egypt on Sunday alleged RSF of carrying out war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the militia organization.
The representative further urged the international community to classify the group as a terrorist entity.
