British and French Jets Strike Below-Ground Islamic State Arms Depot in Syria
Through a combined operation, jets from the UK and France attacked an below-ground site in Syria reportedly occupied by the Islamic State group.
Details of the Coordinated Attack
The mission occurred on Saturday night in a mountainous region in the vicinity of the ancient city of the city of Palmyra.
Guided bombs were used to target and destroy the entry tunnels leading to the location.
“Initial indications are that the site was effectively neutralized,” announced a military statement.
Military Hardware Involved
Eurofighter Typhoon warplanes executed the attack, supported by a Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker to allow for longer missions.
Purpose of the Facility
The subterranean complex is thought to have been used primarily for the storage of weapons and explosives.
The military confirmed the vicinity was absent of civilians at the time of the strike.

The UK's defence chief emphasized the government's commitment to “stand shoulder to shoulder with key allies” in order to eradicate any re-emergence” of ISIS.
Appreciation was shown to the service personnel involved in the strike, which aimed to remove dangerous terrorists who endanger our safety.”
