The City of Angels experienced widespread celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Fans across the globe united with Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a franchise has secured consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Draws Massive Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Social media videos show thousands of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many carrying homemade signs and team flags. The team was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the crowds, raising the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” the star player stated through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at Dodger Stadium, where the players emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue classic car around the field.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Festivities started well before the parade, with supporters lighting flares in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke directly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” he said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
Mixed Reactions and Community Spirit
However, the team owner received a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the gathering appear to show him walking onstage to a mix of cheers and boos, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, fans this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” he remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
