Russell Wilson Fires Back at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Over Quarterback Comments
NY Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson did not hold back on online platforms this Tuesday, reacting to latest comments from his ex-mentor Sean Payton.
"Tasteless... but not surprised...," Wilson declared via social media. "Had no idea you're still offering rewards 15+ years later through the press."
Wilson's response directly referenced the infamous Bounty Gate issue from 2009 to 2011, when Payton led the New Orleans Saints.
During that period, the NFL found that the Saints had rewarded team members for making hard hits on rival teams. Consequently, Payton received a suspension from the league for one season.
What Sparked the Latest Exchange
The quarterback's response came after Payton made remarks following Denver's historic comeback victory over the Giants. The coach suggested that the Giants had "discovered new energy" with their new QB, who has replaced Wilson as the first-string QB.
Moreover, Payton hinted that he had informed Giants owner John Mara that he would rather playing against Wilson over Dart.
"I spoke to John Mara not too long ago and I said, 'We were hoping that the switch would've happened long after our game,'" Payton commented.
