The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
