What We Know Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
At least 16 individuals were killed and more than 40 were wounded when assailants fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the death toll is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the events before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.
The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed in the incident, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
